A quiet, peaceful SundayExcept for a chance of a light shower/sprinkle over the far north, the state is expected to be dry for the day. Upper-level ridging nosing into the region may bring popcorn cumulus clouds over interior areas in the afternoon. Winds are expected to be light for most, with a bit more of a breeze for the hilltops and MidCoast & DownEast shorelines. With the recent rainfall alleviating the dry conditions, wildfire danger is now subject to municipal restrictions. Some towns have lifted burn bans, others have not. Before you touch off the brush pile or light off fireworks, check with your local fire department. Skies clear overnight, heading into Labor Day. Radiational cooling may bring areas of fog to the interior. The Quebec border region may see temperatures dip into the upper 30s Monday morning. Outlook and temperatures through SaturdayOutside of a light shower/sprinkle in the mountains here and there, dry conditions have returned to the region until later in the week. The recent rains, if anything, may have mitigated the ongoing drought, but have not brought any long-term relief. Expect fire danger levels to increase by midweek. A look at precipitable water values from Thursday, 8 AM to Sunday, 8 AM shows the next chance for rainfall late week. While it is encouraging to see the idea of a stream of moisture from the southwest, I am guarded about how much rain it will bring. At this point, the mountains and north are favored for higher amounts, with less over the south and east. Details and timing will come later in the week.
