Any early morning snow over the north shuts down as the Thanksgiving Day storm crawls towards Newfoundland. With the surface low just to the east, a chilly northwest breeze can be expected across the state, more noticeable in the mountains, north, and east. An upper low over James Bay slides waves and its trough axis through the region today, which may pop some higher-elevation snow showers. Those snow showers could continue intermittently through Saturday until the upper low reaches Labrador. The upper-level trough is expected to dominate our weather well into next week, bringing seasonably cool and dry conditions into the first half of the week. With a strong ridge out to the west acting as a block, all of the energy generated in the Arctic spins its way through the east. A solid blocking ridge over the Atlantic working in tandem with all of it creates some intrigue for storm potential in the Thursday / Friday window next week. Looking further into the month, the second week of December appears potentially unsettled. For those who have yet to put winter tread on your vehicle, now is the time. Ensure your windshield washer fluid reservoirs have been filled, and change your wiper blades if necessary. It’s also time to review your storm supplies and check your generator if you have not used it in a while.
