Showers over the far north clear out this morning as the upper low the region has dealt with over the past few days heads toward Labrador. Sun will increase over The County and bring a pleasant afternoon. For the rest of the state, any areas of fog early on clear out. Sun starts the day in most locales. Residual moisture from the departing low and still cooler than average temperatures aloft turn on the popcorn cumulous machine this afternoon. With the low’s departure, a northwest wind develops in its wake, which could make it a bit breezy in spots, especially the mountains. The flow allows coastal areas to warm up into the 70s before the sea breeze sets up, which will cool the shorelines a few degrees with the outgoing tide. FRIDAY NIGHT: Upper-level ridging from the west moves in and brings a surface high. Any clouds around early evening dissipate, allowing for a mainly clear night with the risk of some high clouds associated with a weak wave passing over. Areas of fog are possible for the mountain valleys. Low temperatures fall into the upper 40s in those low-lying interior locations to the mid-50s, with the wind settling out. SATURDAY: The surface high passes to the east in the morning, setting up a west/southwest flow that nudges the dew points up a few degrees. As the upper-level ridge moves east, some clouds form over the mountains and north. I expect the day to be mainly dry, but I can’t rule out a sprinkle chance for the higher elevations. Coastal areas enjoy a mostly sunny day. With the high offshore, expect a sea breeze to develop. High temperatures warm up from the mid-70s to the low 80s. SUNDAY: Another upper low begins to sink in from Hudson Bay and brings a cold front out ahead of it. The mountains and north may see showers, with a potential thunderstorm in the afternoon. High temperatures again will be in the 70s north and the mountains, with 80s elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK: The upper low is expected to stay just west of the region and drift southeast. Shower/storm chances appear likely for western and southern areas on Monday, with isolated activity from the north and east. Tuesday brings an isolated chance for a shower as upper-level ridging moves in for Wednesday, which may bring an isolated shower/storm to the north. Temperatures appear to run close to normal.
