Today's update is presented by Dutch Elm Golf Course in Arundel. Firm and fast fairways and greens await you, along with a friendly atmosphere from one of the few family-owned courses remaining. Plenty of afternoon tee times are available that you can book online. If you make it over, tell them PTW sent you. I hope to see you there! PTW is seeking business partners and financial contributions from its followers to support its operations in 2026. I would appreciate your support as I head into my 15th year of providing information that is not found anywhere else. A chance for a shower/storm, but most areas stay dryBEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT for the Penobscot Bay / DownEast regions due to ocean temperatures below 60°F. Swimmers should use caution in the water, and boaters would be wise to wear personal flotation devices. Expect these statements to continue through the weekend and into next week. AN ISOLATED SHOWER / STORM potential from a weak shortwave is possible in the west over into the Central Highlands Friday afternoon. While the better chance is in neighboring New Hampshire, I can't rule out a pop-up. Given the weak forcing aloft, any fortunate area that gets rain could get a dumper out of it, but I wouldn't bet the house that it happens. UPPER LEVEL RIDGING ENTERS ON SATURDAY and may bring a pop-up shower/storm over the higher elevations and north. AIR QUALITY is moderate statewide on Friday. Interior areas are forecast to have moderate conditions on Saturday. A gusty sea breeze helps to clean the air along the coast. HEAT & HUMIDITY begin to build on Sunday and will continue through Tuesday. Heat advisory level apparent temperatures appear likely across much of the state Monday and Tuesday. Southern areas may extend into Wednesday. A WEAK COLD FRONT is expected to pass through the region on Wednesday, bringing minor temperature relief, but above normal temperatures appear to be the general rule for the next several days, and perhaps through the rest of the month. LONG-TERM IDEAS indicate the precipitable water values will remain moist, which would keep the dew points up in the 60s over much of the state through the rest of the week, perhaps longer. Along with the humid conditions, Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE, fuel for thunderstorms) appears elevated. The idea is out there for potluck showers and storms (strong to severe is possible) from Wednesday onward into next weekend. With the humidity up, locally heavy downpours are likely in any convective activity.
