SNOW: I have not changed my thinking about the post on the website I linked here on Thursday. The heavier snowfall passes over eastern areas Friday night into the wee hours of Saturday morning, tapering to snow showers by daylight. Overnight travel could be slick with reduced visibility Way DownEast. Expect the newly fallen snow to blow around all day as the exiting storm intensifies on its way to Newfoundland. The snow shower machine continues throughout the day as the upper low to the north pivots through the area, ending by Saturday evening. WIND CHILL / ACTUAL TEMPERATURES: It won’t get to the freezer burn level, but it will be cold enough. Below-zero chills for the ski slopes with single digits to teens above zero are the main idea through Saturday. Temperatures by sunrise on Sunday range from the single digits below to around zero in the north to the low teens along the shorelines. Ambient temperatures feel like teens below zero in the higher elevations to ± 0° along the shores. Expect bitter cold nights to continue through Christmas Eve before slowly climbing upward toward the latter part of the week. A WHITE CHRISTMAS FOR SOUTHWESTERN AREAS? For those bummed out looking at brown ground heading into the holiday, I offer a bit of hope for a chance for some light snow possible on Christmas Eve and perhaps some Currier and Ives snow showers on Christmas Day. I don’t expect much in the way of accumulation, hopefully enough to firmly dust up the ground to take the edge of the brown off. Stay tuned for updates on that. STORM NEXT WEEKEND? Models are flip-flopping like a politician in the long-range, so it is hard to nail down any firm ideas on timing or what impacts that it may have. We’ll see.
