DENSE FOG ADVISORY UNTIL 9 AM FRIDAY for much of the coastal plain. Some areas could be pea soup thick as the dewpoints and the marine layer interact. Given the dynamics, it could linger in some places all day (the necks of the MidCoast, Penobscot Bay, MDI, Passamaquoddy Bay). Patchy drizzle is possible as well. LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING THREAT for the western mountains, Moosehead, the Great North Woods, and up into the Allagash as a backdoor cold front creeps in Friday afternoon. With precipitable water values ±1¼", this could cause heavy downpours where storms form. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Any areas that receive heavy rainfall Friday afternoon may see a repeat flooding risk on Saturday. RAINFALL AMOUNTS THROUGH SUNDAY are still a game of Whack-A-Mole. The odds are good that Fryeburg to Danforth northward has a solid chance to pick up 1"+ of rain where convective showers/storms occur. MidCoast and DownEast areas can see locally similar amounts of IF (and that is a BIG IF) convection pops Saturday afternoon. We'll see if the marine layer spoils the ideas that some short-term models are spitting out. York County may escape with the least amount of rainfall (±¼"), provided that it avoids heavy showers. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL remains on track to swing through the state Saturday afternoon into early Sunday morning. Showers become scattered on Sunday and widely scattered on Monday. THE WIND PICKS UP MONDAY as the upper low exits to the east, beginning the drying out process. The northwesterly airflow may bring gusts of 20-30 mph, and it could be breezy into Tuesday as well. Allspeed's annual bike swap is Saturday! |
