First call on snow potentialQuick update here as I deal with the logistics of dropping my car off for service and to get the snow tires mounted... This is shaping up to be a fair snow for the north. The cold appears to hold there, and with the ocean low expected to form along the Maine coast, it may then stall and bobble around northeastern New Brunswick for 12-18 hours, making that area the jackpot zone. The storm pressure is expected to be around 975-980 mb by early Monday, setting up the potential for blowing snow on Monday. Western areas and the ski hills may get cheated on snow with some junk mixing in (sleet, freezing rain), which will make for tricky travel overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Backside snow showers may add a couple of inches to the taller peaks Sunday night into Monday. For the interior coastal plain, ground temperatures are running in the upper 30s to mid-40s, so it will require dynamic cooling for snow to pile up there after the rain. The rule of thumb at this point is that the further inland, the better the chance for some slop as a parting gift. The immediate shorelines appear to be mainly rain. Falling temperatures on Sunday afternoon may increase the risk of black ice after roughly ¼-½" of rainfall. I will have a full update with the fine-tuning on this one posted on the website Saturday morning. It's time to get ready for ski season! The PTW Weather Wall updates 24/7Your financial support keeps the lighthouse lit |
