NORTH & EASTERN AREAS… Due to the bone-dry air over the region, NWS Caribou has trimmed the Winter Weather Advisory for light ice potential overnight to the far eastern zones. Expected precipitation amounts have also been rolled back. The race is between the saturation of the air column and the rise in surface temperature, which will determine the precipitation type, whether it is freezing or warm rain. The advisory runs through 11 AM. BREEZY FOR ALL AREAS… Wind speeds pick up out of the northwest and could gust in the 20s over most areas and 30-40mph over the higher elevations. The wind speeds are expected to settle down a bit overnight, pick up again on Saturday, and continue through Sunday. WILDFIRE THREAT… Drier air moves into the region, especially over southwestern areas, where relative humidity values may hover in the 20-30% range, with actual temperatures in the 50s. In contrast, dew points range in the teens. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted southwest Maine at an elevated fire threat level. Red Flag Warnings are posted for Southern New Hampshire and all of Southern New England. TEMPERATURES for Friday range from around 40° to the north to the mid-50s south. Saturday morning lows start in the upper-20s for the mountains, with 30s elsewhere. Saturday’s highs mirror Friday’s, ranging from around 40° north to mid-50s south. THE NEXT CHANCE FOR RAIN is Monday, but it may only be a light shower, sprinkle, or snowflake at a higher elevation for the mountains and north. Another system late next week shows potential in the long term, but we’ve seen this Charlie Brown movie before as Lucy has stolen the rain football away closer to the event. Stay tuned!
