Storm passes to the northMelissa's offshore, en route to Newfoundland, and heading off to retirement in the North Atlantic. The region has benefited from the trough that has siphoned off some moisture from the hurricane, with several reports of over 1" over the west and south in the overnight hours. Here in Kennebunk, as of 5:25 AM, I picked up 1.36", which is only the 8th time this year where my 24-hour total has exceeded 1". Your reports and observations would be appreciated! HALLOWEEN EVENING features showers to the north and breezy conditions to the south, with ambient temperatures in the 40s along the Quebec border areas and in the 50s elsewhere. BREEZY CONDITIONS FOR SATURDAY with windchills in the 20s for the interior and 30s for the coast to start off. With the storm running around 970mb over the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the northwest breeze will crank 20-30 mph with higher gusts for the hills. Weak disturbances bring the risk of valley rain showers and higher-elevation snow showers throughout the day. Cold air advection helps warm the coastal areas, where temperatures reach the low 50s. However, for the Quebec border region, achieving ambient temperatures of 40° may be a challenge. WIND DROPS OVERNIGHT INTO SUNDAY, and with the clear sky, the temperature falls below freezing away from the immediate coast, presenting a frosty start with 20s/30s. It will be a mainly sunny day, with highs in the low 40s for the interior and the low 50s for the coast. Expect another frosty start to Monday. NEXT RAIN CHANCE comes Monday night into Tuesday. It is another situation where an upper-level trough may interact with an ocean storm, bringing some rainfall. It should not deter people from fulfilling their civic duty. It's time to tune the blades up and get ready for ski season! The PTW Weather Wall updates 24/7Your financial support keeps the lighthouse lit |
