HIGH SURF ADVISORY – COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENTS & WARNINGS – HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK Observations from 5 AM Friday indicate some fairly stiff wind gusts along the coast from the cut-off area of low pressure southeast of George’s Bank. Reported 20-40 mph gusts along the shores and buoys will continue through Saturday. While the wind is expected to reduce in speed as the storm moves out to sea on Sunday, I do expect breezy conditions for the coast to continue into next week. The coast is where the action will be: wind, high surf, minor flooding, and, for southern areas, light rain showers and sprinkles. I don’t expect any rain of value out of this as the system is too far to the southeast, and with the backdoor cold front having passed through overnight, dry air dominates. Given the prolonged nature of the storm stall, I expect our seaside beaches will be dealing with erosion due to the astronomically high tides, seas 5-9’, and roughly 1½’ of storm surge associated with them through the weekend and may linger into Monday. For interior areas, the weekend appears to be marked by dry conditions, light wind, and increasing sun as the storm slowly moves away. Dry conditions are expected to start next week. Shower chances increase beginning Wednesday over southwestern areas, and over the rest of the region Thursday into Friday.
