Before I get into it, I am excited to announce that Spinney's Restaurant & Lodging at Fort Popham in Phippsburg is on board as a business partner and a seasonal presenting sponsor for PTW updates. This property was operated by my grandmother's family for generations. While the family sold out years ago, it's in great hands with current innkeeper Chris Bartlett. Chris wrote up an incredible testimony about his finding PTW and how the forecast presented here helped him prepare for the January 2024 storms that brought heavy damage to the coastline. You can read it here:
Reading his post brought joyful tears to my eyes as this property that meant so much to my family for hundreds of years was spared the worst, thanks to his preparation and communication with me. This is why I get out of bed at Oh-God-No-thirty in the morning and work crazy long days between this and my day job, because of places like Spinney's, with business, family, and personal interests, who follow me here. For those who have financially contributed, this is your trust in me on the front stage with your dollars and the impact of it.
As long as the funds continue to come in, I'll keep doing this, and that begins with those who are reading this post. Whether it's a simple $5 contribution to the coffee fund or a larger amount for the year, or perhaps you have a business and would like to reach hundreds of thousands of people who visit the website and Facebook, it would be an honor to have you on board. Heat Advisory posted across much of the region
While it will be plenty warm, it won't be as ridiculous as the heat the region experienced on June 24th and 25th. and on July 6th and 7th. The dew point temperatures appear to stay below 70° as a general rule, which cuts down on the steam. For those with heat sensitivities without air conditioning, it may be uncomfortable enough to seek relief. The fine folks at the Maine Emergency Management Agency have a list of cooling centers around the state where you can take a break.
The oceanside beaches are the place to be today, but it would be in your best interest to arrive early and plan on space availability to erode with the early afternoon high tide. While there is no beach hazards statement issued by NWS Caribou, as that is a weekend thing, the Penobscot Bay/DownEast waters are on the chilly side and pose a hypothermia or shock risk. All boaters should wear their flotation devices.
The sea breeze kicks up this afternoon to help take the edge off, the one key thing that was missing from the extreme heat earlier in the summer. Most areas south and east of a line from Fryeburg to Bangor should get some relief in the afternoon. Given the dew points and minor instability around, there is a very low chance of an isolated shower or storm in the mountains. The increase in humidity may reduce the fire danger threat a bit, but much of the region remains a tinderbox and will continue to be for some time. Expect areas of fog to break out near the lakes, rivers, and the ocean overnight, which could be locally dense in spots to start Tuesday morning. Rain chances minimal through the rest of the week
Wednesday 8 AM (12z) to Friday 8 AM (12z) - A shortwave frontal boundary is on track to bring heat relief Wednesday night into Thursday, but as time gets closer, the more moisture-starved guidance becomes. Northern areas may get a shower on Wednesday evening. The European idea presented here teases the chance for showers along the coast on Thursday. Time will tell if there is substance to it, as the model tends to have a juicy bias to it.
The weekend appears dry on Saturday, and I'm going to pencil in a chance for showers Sunday for now, with a brief warm-up heading into next week. Temperature outlook through SundayThe PTW Weather Wall updates 24/7Big bills come due in October and I need your support
