A few showers around to start the weekA cold front slowly passes through the region on Monday. Dew points in the 60s bring a touch of summertime humidity, but with the cloud cover, it may not be noticed. The moisture may reduce the fire danger threat slightly, but the breeze, although not as strong as Sunday, could fan some flames if a wildfire starts. The seas have calmed down for now, but a small craft advisory goes into effect at 2 AM Tuesday until 5 PM for breezy conditions after the boundary passes through, along with building seas. Monday 6 AM to Tuesday 6 AM - The approaching cold front encounters a slowdown in the form of an area of low pressure along a stationary front offshore, which will bring much-needed rainfall to Nova Scotia. In typical clipper-like fashion, the north and mountains get the better chance for showers. DownEast areas have a slight chance to squeeze a bit more rain out of this, given the low moving into the Canadian Maritimes. Southern areas may get a few charity drops, but that is likely to be it. Storm chances are likely to be isolated and offer little more than a rumble or two of thunder and a quick hit of rain. Convection is difficult to develop given the cloud cover, but a few pokes of sun may warm the surface enough to bubble a storm up. Next rain chance late weekThere are ideas brewing of potential rainfall Friday into Saturday as disturbances travel along the base of the upper-level trough moving into the region on Tuesday, which will hang around well into September. I certainly would not cancel any plans at this point, as guidance loves to tease rainfall events in the long range that bring little precipitation closer to and on the day of the potential. There are also operational ideas for potential rainfall Sunday into Monday, but most trusted ensemble ideas are calling a bluff on that idea at this point. Stay tuned.
