Today's update is presented by Crowe’s Restoration of Arundel. For emergency fire & water damage (pipe bursts), mold, or biohazard issues in western and southern Maine, call them at 207-467-3152. Thank you for the support of PTW! MONDAY: SNOW SHOWERS around for the mountains and north as weak upper-level disturbances pass through. DownEast areas may also see a few flakes as the waves interact with the 40° ocean and a weak area of low pressure. The closer to the Quebec border, the cloudier it is. The northwest wind picks up during the day, then settles Monday night. MONDAY NIGHT: The sky clears out over the north and east, and clouds increase over the west and south. Where the sky remains clear, temperatures risk falling in the double digits below zero with radiational cooling. Cloud cover keeps the overnight lows around 0°. TUESDAY: Another round of snow showers along the Quebec border region as another weak wave passes through later in the day. A southwest wind flow develops out ahead of it, with gusts of 15-25 mph (mountains 30-35 mph) possible. WEDNESDAY: Mainly sunny, and a calm day is expected as high-pressure moves in for the day. WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY: A warm front attached to an inside runner is expected to move into the area. There are several ideas on the potential outcome. What is consistent is snow is likely to start, with the Thursday morning commute likely to be a slick one for southwestern areas. The jury is out on whether a mixed bag of interior junk and coastal rain comes or the cold holds with a more southeastern track and brings more snow (think last Thursday). There is also disagreement on whether the warm front holds together or not. This impacts how much of what type of precipitation and for how long. Stay tuned. SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY: While this is in the day 6 to 7 window, I like the idea of a decent snowfall. The forecast upstream blocking over Greenland is very favorable. How amped up the storm could get will depend on the offshore ridge to the east. The cold air will be around. We’ll see.
