Today's update is presented by Crowe’s Restoration of Arundel. For emergency fire & water damage (flooding), mold, or biohazard issues in western and southern Maine, call them at 207-467-3152. Ice jam flood threat continuesGREEN ON THE MAP means FLOOD WATCH, which brings an unlucky chance of localized flooding due to the potential for ice jams. Two NERFC rivers highlighted for minor concern are the Saco at North Conway/ Fryeburg and the Swift in West Roxbury. I'd keep an eye on the Carrabassett, knowing the history around that. The rule of thumb here is any minor tributary south and east of the mountains has the potential for ice jams and flooding. If you encounter a flooded roadway, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN. Ice jams aren't anything to screw around with. LOCALIZED DENSE FOG will be an issue statewide through the evening as dew points run well above freezing. It will eat away at the snowpack and release more water into the waterways. Expect reduced visibility on the roads. RAIN clears out from southwest to northeast, starting mid-afternoon through mid-evening. Folks in the Way DownEast region may see it continue overnight into Tuesday morning as the frontal boundary may stall in the Bay of Fundy but appears to move out by midday. WIND appears minor for most areas, with southerly gusts over the interior in the teens and 20s. MidCoast/DownEast regions and islands may see gusts in the 30s to 40. which may cause isolated power outages, but the overall impact appears minimal. Wind direction shifts to the northwest this evening, with gusts in the teens and 20s, and diminishes Tuesday morning. LIQUID FREEZES UP ON ROADWAYS TONIGHT OVER THE INTERIOR as the cold front works through. Expect BLACK ICE to form on the roadways. SNOW SHOWERS are possible as a parting gift with little to no accumulation. THE NEXT STORM appears likely Thursday into Friday. An inside runner brings rain to the start. It may spin off a secondary low over the Gulf of Maine and bring snow to all areas to end. There is a potential wind component to monitor. Shoreline impacts appear minor, with tides off their astronomical highs. PROGRAMMING NOTE: I am recovering from what was diagnosed as a GI blockage, which is why I have been quiet over the last couple of days. I have been very weak and have not eaten much. I am improving and hope to be back in game shape soon. I appreciate your understanding and support. Check out the Weather Wall with all your current |
