I am seeing some parallels in the weather pattern to September 2019, one of the driest Septembers on record for the south end of the state. This is good for the foliage outlook. This will also mean the daily chore of hydrating the garden will continue. It’s not so good for wildfire concerns. While the region warms up later in the week to above-normal levels, dew points will be on the dry side, as noted by the overnight lows in the 7-day outlook. While there may be a smattering of sprinkles and light showers Monday night, there isn’t much in the pipeline until Friday. A clipper system is expected to come through, which may be relatively weak, bring some shower activity favoring the mountains and north, and will bring a gradual cool-down over the weekend. One feature to watch is the tropical system developing in the Gulf of Mexico. Depending on the forward speed, that will indicate whether rainfall moves into the northeast and is associated with remnants of that. Still, the low may become cut off and stay south with upper-level ridging in control. Long-term ideas hint at an extended dry spell, leaning toward above-normal temperatures throughout the rest of the month.
