Minor snow event on the wayA fast-moving, moisture-starved clipper is on track to race through the region Saturday night into early Sunday, bringing some fluffy snow. There is not a lot of moisture to work with here, with ±¼” of liquid involved for most areas, with upwards of ½” for the MidCoast and DownEast shoreline areas. TIMING: Snow is expected to break out over the west around midnight and overspread the state by around 5 AM. Snow is expected to taper off over the south by 8-9 AM and exit north and east by Noon-1 PM. Expect snow showers to continue in the western mountains until late evening. IMPACTS: Travel impacts appear minor. The roads have been treated with the recent storms. There is always the risk of slick spots on the secondary roads, but nothing to change plans over. Dry snow that will easily be moved with a leaf blower or a brush. It may be a bit juicier along the shorelines, but this is a low-stress snow removal event overall. STORMS TO WATCH NEXT WEEK: A warm front is expected to pass through the region MONDAY NIGHT into TUESDAY, which may bring 1-3” of snow to parts of the interior and perhaps a light mix of junk to the shoreline communities. This appears to be a low-impact event, but it will be monitored and updated. WEDNESDAY has the potential for a more significant event, with a general 1-2” of liquid equivalent being the general idea for now. In the form of an inside runner, it appears that it could be a widespread rain event that ends as snow along the Quebec border areas heading into Thursday. With the ground frozen across much of the area, there could be some flooding from snowmelt and runoff. Wind could be a concern for isolated to scattered power outage potential. Shoreline areas see astronomical tide levels creep up toward the full moon next weekend. Stay tuned!
