The focus of the day for the bulk of the precipitation shifts to the north and east as an offshore storm intensifies and hooks into Prince Edward Island by 7 PM Saturday. The storm's central pressure is predicted to bottom out in the 975-980mb range, which will raise the wind speeds. Wind gusts could reach 30-45 mph (higher hilltops), which could bring some isolated power outages. The forecast remains consistent, with most areas south of The County receiving 1-2” of rain (or liquid equivalent in snow) for a multi-day storm total by Sunday. The taller ski hills should do well with this event, as cold air remains entrenched, which could push totals upwards of a foot for the summits. Expect windy conditions to continue through Sunday, with snow showers in the mountains and snow and/or rain showers in the north through midday. The weakening low will be pushed towards the Avalon peninsula of Newfoundland overnight into Monday as upper-level ridging moves in. Monday continues to be breezy but calms down by Monday evening. Our next system is expected to move in during the wee hours of Tuesday over the south and east, then spread to the north and east during the morning. The mountains and north could pick up a couple of inches of snow. The valleys and the foothills may be dealing with a junky mix of freezing rain or sleet. The coastal plain appears to be a rainy affair closer to the shorelines. The general idea is for ¼-½” of liquid equivalent at this point. Wednesday and Thanksgiving look decent for travel. Black Friday into the weekend is still a potpourri of operational and ensemble ideas, with no clear consensus on the storm track or potential amounts of snow, rain, and wind. Given the holiday weekend, it would be wise to prepare for possible impacts with any travel plans and stay tuned. Always have MULTIPLE ways to receive weather alerts.
