A chilly day with snow on the way

Picture
THE STRING OF BELOW NORMAL COLD CONTINUES, where the maximum minimum temperatures may not reach the average low over northern areas. A breezy early over the north and east will diminish by mid to late morning, taking the edge off somewhat.
Picture
SNOW breaks out over western areas late afternoon and reaches DownEast areas by 10-11 PM. Snow tapers to snow showers by 2-3 AM for western regions, and ends Way DownEast by around 9 AM Monday. This is a "fluffernutter" event, with the SLR (snow-to-liquid ratio) running high (15- 20+:1). Guidance hints at the chance of enhancement in the Rockland region and along coastal Washington County, where snowfall rates at 1-2" per hour are possible, with totals reaching 6" if that happens. The far north appears to sit this one out. Southern York County may not get much out of this either, but a slight jog of the track to the south, with moisture drawn in from the ocean, changes it.

SNOW TO BLOW AROUND ON MONDAY as the wind picks up out of the northwest. WIND CHILLS below zero in the mountains and north and single digits above along the coast. The wind drops heading into Monday night, with a bitterly cold start to Tuesday with lows below zero over the interior to 5° along the shorelines.

NEXT STORM WEDNESDAY brings snow to interior areas, and the potential for rain & snow to the coast, but precipitation type is not clear as of yet. Stay tuned for updates on that.
