SUNDAY will be the warmest day the region sees for a week, with a good bet that the coastal plain will rise above freezing for the first time in nearly a week. Clouds associated with a warm front pass through this morning. A weak cold front slides through on its heels this afternoon, which may bring snow showers or flurries along the Quebec border and the north, with mainly sunny skies for the south. The breeze will add a bit of snap to the air and will be a bit blustery in the higher elevations. SUNDAY NIGHT: The sky will become partly to mostly cloudy as a weak upper-level wave passes through overnight. Wind speeds will shift to the west and be breezy enough to keep actual temperatures up for areas not protected by the mountains, but wind chill values will knock off 5-10°. MONDAY: One more warm day, although not as warm as Sunday. Wind speeds increase as the Arctic front approaches from the northwest and could bring gusts in the 30-40 mph range, again bringing wind chill values down into the teens and 20s. MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY: The Arctic front passes through the overnight, which may bring scattered snow showers and squalls, bringing a quick inch of snow in spots and reducing visibility. Expect a frigid day with wind chill values below zero everywhere, with interior areas potentially running in the -20s. EXTENDED OUTLOOK: A weak clipper passes through on Wednesday, which may bring snow showers and a reinforcing wave of cold because it wasn’t cold enough. Snow showers may continue into Thursday for the mountains and north as weak waves continue to pass through. There is a fair amount of ensemble noise to keep watch for a storm next Sunday into Monday, but given the long-term teases as of late, the idea is low confidence for now.
