A look at the steering level of the atmosphere through the water vapor lens with radar as of around 5 AM Sunday shows an occluded (weakening) upper-low over the Corn Belt that has been detached from the moisture hose. The ridge to the west is shoving it to the northeast, where it will become an open wave and fizzle out. In that scenario, what precipitation comes our way appears light and insignificant and will not diminish the drought or wildfire threat. With the surface high passing just south of the benchmark point (40°N/70°W) this morning, a southwest flow will warm up temperatures from mid-40s north to the mid-50s south. The shorelines and the taller hills may see wind gusts in the 20-mph range as the warm front moves closer to the region by Sunday night. Showers are expected to break out over the state from southwest to northeast Sunday night, ending early Monday over the south soon after sunrise in the south and exiting eastern areas by around midday. A cold front passes through Monday afternoon, which may bring an afternoon rain shower along the Quebec border region in the afternoon, and it may bring snow showers as the air column cools Monday night into early Tuesday. As the cold front departs, a new surface low forms and amplifies over Atlantic Canada, bringing windy conditions and dry air for Tuesday. Gusts from the northwest may reach advisory levels, cause isolated power outages, and raise fire danger. Surface high pressure moves in for Wednesday, turning the windmill off. The next chance for precipitation comes late week into next weekend, but the jury remains out on type and amounts. Always have MULTIPLE ways to receive weather alerts.
