A look at the regional map from early Sunday morning shows a strong upper low to the north and a surface high to the southwest, and they don’t like each other too much. The result is another day of chilly and breezy conditions for the region. Weak upper-level disturbances ride along the backside of the upper low, which could bring snow showers and flurries over the interior. Dry air is also involved here, which will elevate fire danger concerns. Actual temperatures range from the 40s north to the 50s along the south coast. However, with the wind chill factored in, the mountains and north ambient temperatures stay below freezing for the day, with the coastal plain knocking off 5-10 degrees as the westerly breeze continues. The upper low departs on Monday as the surface high moves in. It will be another cool day, with the breeze diminishing through the day and settling down heading into Tuesday morning. A warm front will work into the region Tuesday night, which could bring rain showers to the coastal plain and snow showers over the interior. Some guidance ideas on amounts have recently trended a bit juicier, with southwestern areas potentially picking up around ¼-½” of liquid, but there is enough of a disagreement that I remain skeptical that that area will receive that much. I will update you on that on Monday. Record high temperatures for Halloween? That idea is out there but may fall a bit short. Regardless, it will be a pleasant evening for the trick-or-treaters.
