SYNOPSIS OUTLOOK THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK: The polar high-pressure system to the region's west Thursday morning slides to the east south of Nova Scotia by Thursday evening. High clouds increase Thursday afternoon as a surface low near the Ohio River valley moves in from the west heading into Friday. Light rain/snow showers are possible for the south, west, and DownEast overnight into Friday morning. After some morning rain or snow showers, the week is expected to end on a dry note. The key feature of the weekend is a cut-off upper-level low that moves offshore of the Virginia / North Carolina border. In combination with a developing ocean low associated with it, moisture moves into the south, west, and east on Saturday in the form of rain and snow showers. The frequency of shower activity is dependent on the position. What appeared earlier in the week as a washout for all areas but the north has toned down with most of the recent ideas. What is consistent is that southern and eastern regions have a better chance of receiving more shower potential through Sunday, with less of a risk to the north and west. t's important to note that these cut-off upper lows have a mind of their own and can sometimes make model ideas look foolish. With enough blocking to the north and east, I can see cases of under- and overperformance for shower activity and rainfall amounts based on how strong or weak the blocking ideas are presented. Sunday is the drier day for all but coastal areas. High pressure to the north keeps interior regions dry. Scattered showers are likely up and down the shoreline areas. The upper low gets shoved out on Monday and takes the ocean low with it. Showers return on Tuesday, and snow showers are possible on Wednesday. The PTW Weather Wall has the latest information |
