WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY posted for the combination of heavy wet snow, snowfall rates of 1-2” per hour, and the risk of a light ice glaze as a parting gift. A general 2-5” of snow is likely with locally higher amounts due to banding.
Picture
START TIMES: Southwestern areas between 7 and 10 AM, central (Bangor) 10 AM-1 PM, and for the east and the north 12-2 PM.

END TIMES: Southern areas between 3-5 PM, west, central, and east 5-7 PM, north 8-11 PM.

THE GRAPHICS tell the tale of amounts, timing, and temperatures. The further north, the drier the snow. Western areas approaching the mountains valleys could get some wet snow out of this. The coastal front holds the cards here, where bust potential looms on the high end. Southwest interior areas (Fryeburg, Bridgton, Lakes Region) could see 1-2”+ per hour snowfall rates over a three-hour period. This could be a bit of a PITA to move with the recent warm-up, but outside of the topsoil, the ground is as good as bedrock with the cold from December on. For those receiving slop, it may be better to wait to see what melts organically and plan to clean up later on. While temperatures over the coastal plain drop to near freezing overnight, cold air advection from the northwest flow on Friday will warm temperatures up to around 40° and allow for more melting through the morning before the cold comes in the afternoon and temperatures drop.

SATURDAY
will see a similar event with lighter amounts of precipitation.  Cold air funnels back in again Sunday into Monday. A wet inside runner could bring wind, rain, and flooding concerns from Wednesday into Thursday next week. Stay tuned for more on that.
