Update presented by Crowe’s Restoration of Arundel. For emergency fire & water damage (pipe bursts), mold, or biohazard issues in western and southern Maine, call them at 207-467-3152...

THE SLOW CRAWL OUT OF THE DUNGEON of the past few days has begun as temperatures are 20° or so warmer than Wednesday morning, thanks to the southwest flow around high pressure offshore.

FLURRIES and SNOW SHOWERS for the mountains and north, along with MidCoast areas, may bring some light to no accumulation. LIGHT SNOW for the Passamaquoddy Bay region may get a couple of inches of snow there as moisture from the southwest, working in tandem with a developing offshore low to the south, brushes the region.

THE SKY CLEARS OUT for most areas Thursday night into early Friday, allowing for another crisp night. Light to no wind will allow for radiational cooling to take place. A weak frontal boundary to the west may keep snow showers going at times in the mountains overnight.

OUTSIDE OF THE RISK OF MOUNTAIN SNOW SHOWERS, the weekend appears mainly dry. With upper-level ridging moving in, the coastal plain has a good chance to break freezing to allow for the clean-up of the patchy ice around. Saturday will be the sunnier of the two days. Clouds return for Sunday as the ridge moves out to sea and an upper-level trough moves in from the northwest.

NEXT WEEK APPEARS UNSETTLED as waves of upper-level disturbances pass through, bringing another shot of Arctic air into the region and could keep the snow shower machine working in the mountains and north. At this point, there are no storms of significance in the pipeline through the initial start of February.
