Stationary front continues to be stubborn

Picture
Scattered showers will persist today as a frontal boundary lingers just south of the region, before clearing out by Friday night due to high pressure taking over. The Bermuda high will take hold through the weekend, directing southerly flow up the East Coast. This will bring mainly dry conditions and warm weather on Saturday and Sunday. Another weak trough will move into the state on Sunday and continue into Monday. Early next week, the ridge is expected to begin weakening, allowing for a return of spotty showers and a gradual warming of temperatures.

Isolated showers and storms on Friday

Picture
Friday 2 AM to Saturday 2 AM - There is a chance for showers across the state on Friday. However, the most significant potential for rain will occur in northern and mountainous regions. Scattered showers are likely to happen in these areas throughout the day and into Friday night, with a possible thunderstorm developing in the afternoon. The pattern will generally move southeast, but coastal areas should not expect as much rain. The most they will see is a few sprinkles from lingering moisture.

Potential dense fog in spots early Saturday

Picture
Saturday appears to be the best day of the weekend, with a minimal chance of showers across the state. However, in the early morning hours, areas including the southernmost portion of the state and the mountains will experience reduced visibility due to dense fog with perhaps some patchy drizzle. Higher visibility values are present over eastern Maine and offshore, implying clearer conditions. The scattered patches of very low visibility highlight potential hazards for any early morning activities.

Humidity, rain, with possible storms
late Sunday through Monday

Picture
Sunday 2 AM (06z) to Tuesday 2 AM (06z) - A cold front will push through the region on Sunday night into Monday, bringing another chance for showers. PWAT (Precipitable Water) values will support rain showers beginning in the north late Sunday night before moving southeast towards the coast in the afternoon. This indicates a deep column of moisture capable of producing efficient rainfall. Given the elevated moisture levels, locally moderate to heavy rain is possible at times, especially in areas of enhanced lift.

Storm threat possible Tuesday

Picture
Tuesday 2 AM (06z) to Wednesday 2 AM (06z) - Tuesday will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms across the region. MUCAPE (Most Unstable Convective Available Potential Energy) values will reach close to 2400 down south near the coast at night. This represents moderate to strong instability, suggesting the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms. During the day, northern areas will also experience high CAPE values, although not as significant, suggesting that some instability remains in the atmosphere. Overall, coastal areas, particularly those in the south, have the best chance of experiencing thunderstorms in the late afternoon hours to nighttime, given high CAPE values.

Heat and humidity returns Wednesday

Picture
The state of Maine is in for a stretch of hot and sticky weather on Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures running about 10 to 14 degrees above normal across the region. The most significant anomalies are expected along the coast and in parts of central Maine, where values are expected to reach 10-15° above normal on Wednesday and Thursday. This surge in heat is likely due to a combination of strong upper-level ridging and warm, southerly flow, likely linked to the Bermuda high pattern. Heat indices may make it feel even hotter, especially in interior areas with less sea breeze influence.
