Earlier in the week, I mentioned the “three amigos,” which I coined as three upper lows that would change the pattern as the week evolved. It’s taken a triple-team offense to beat down the anomalously strong ridge to the east over the Atlantic and break the region out of the tropical swamp we’ve been dealing with over the past four weeks. The blast furnace conditions are over for now. The third amigo gives us pause with the humidity over the weekend and into early next week but will tick back upwards as the trough the third amigo delivers heads northeast. We have hardly dealt with wildfire smoke at all this summer due to the pattern, but with the trough moving in over the weekend, the chance is there to see some dimming as a result. THURSDAY: Precipitation-wise, the day will be hit-or-miss with showers and a chance of rumble as the cold front approaches. Southern areas are likely to be the drier region after the morning wave of shower activity passes through. The western mountains, northern and eastern areas may see rain/thunder chances in the afternoon as the front works through the area. Cloud cover will vary from a mix of sun and clouds to cloudy conditions. Dew point temperatures drop over the mountains and north by afternoon and evening for the coast. It’ll be a night to shut off the air conditioners and heat pumps and open the windows as overnight lows fall into the 50s for most areas. FRIDAY: High pressure moves in and takes over. It's a mainly clear, sun-filled day with a bit of a smoky haze over the north. Dew points are in the 50s. High temperatures are in the 70s for the mountains and north and 80s for the coastal plain. A northwest breeze freshens the interior, with a coastal sea breeze developing in the afternoon. SATURDAY / SUNDAY / MONDAY: The third amigo works in and may bring a shower or chance rumble over the north and mountains while the rest of the region stays dry on Saturday. Dew points lower slightly after the weak front passes through heading into Sunday. Warm but comfortable days and open windows to sleep through all three days. The smoky haze from the wildfires may filter the sun a bit through early next week.
THE NEXT CHANCE FOR RAIN appears Tuesday/Wednesday and may be hit-or-miss showers. Expect dew points to rise into the 60s once again. - Mike |
