MOST OF THE REGION STAYS DRY FOR THE DAY, BUT there is the risk of isolated showers and perhaps a thunderstorm in the afternoon and into the evening. Special note for that over southwestern areas as dew points climb. While it appears to be cloudy to partly sunny in that area to start, the sun may be able to poke through in the afternoon for a time, which could ignite convection. The dynamics aren’t great for storms, so I am not concerned about severe potential, but there may be a clap or two, especially along the sea breeze front later in the day. A quick hit of rain appears to be more of the likely outcome out of anything that may bubble up. Just stay mindful that where the sun comes out, you might get wet.

The north and the mountains will likely stay dry during the day, but a weak cold front may bring showers with a rumble possible later in the evening and into the overnight hours.

The wind appears light across much of the region, with the north and shorelines breezier areas between the weak cold front approach and the onshore flow.

Expect fog around the shoreline areas from Penobscot Bay to the east. With the dew points in the 60s into the foreseeable future, this will be a daily occurrence for a while.

FRIDAY… The weak cold front that tries to work in overnight Thursday runs out of gas and stalls out, splitting the state from southwest to northeast from the western foothills up into southern Aroostook. A stationary front sets up for the day, and as weak disturbances pass along, it may bring the risk of a shower or two and a possible storm through the day.

SATURDAY remains on track to be the wetter of the four days statewide. The Weather Prediction Center has the west and north flagged under marginal risk for localized flash flooding, where heavier rain might occur. The stationary front from Friday moves northward as a warm front on Saturday as low pressure over the Great Lakes gives it a boost. Dew points will be ripe over the south as they push into the 70s, bringing a convective shower/storm threat.

Expect isolated showers and storms for Sunday and early next week.

Enjoy your Fourth! I appreciate each of you, and thank you for your support!

-Mike
