#Maine #MEwx THURSDAY June 13th Update…
THURSDAY… Outside of the slight risk of an afternoon isolated shower or storm for the far north, a dry day is expected for the state. High pressure drifts to the southeast, setting up a southwest wind flow. Dew point temperatures tick upward into the low 60s for the coastal plain, but the humidity level will be tolerable. Bust potential for the day is for the shorelines of the MidCoast and DownEast, where a fog bank may develop and keep temperatures down and gray the skies. SHOWERS and STORMS FRIDAY… The outlook of ideas for developing isolated strong to severe storms, along with flash flood potential, continues. The main threat area runs from Rumford to Houlton south and east. Given the mid-level lapse rates and wind shear, the ideas on storm dynamics of the short-term convection-allowing models are pitching appear rather mundane. With that in mind, I don’t expect storm coverage to be an issue, but a few gnarly cells that could bring damaging wind and dump copious amounts of rainfall are certainly on the discussion table. Expect humidity levels to increase, which will be a preview of coming attractions for next week. The front is expected to clear southern areas by mid-evening. A stall over the Gulf of Maine makes rain showers possible for coastal DownEast areas Friday night into early Saturday. SATURDAY… Showers are possible for DownEast areas in the morning but appear to clear out by midday. A northerly flow brings dry air into the area and could be breezy with gusts in the 20-30 mph range, the high end for the mountains. Temperatures range from the 60s north to the 70s for the coast. SUNDAY… A ridge builds in from the west, which may bring clouds in the afternoon. The wind direction shifts from the north to the southwest during the day as high pressure passes by to the south. High temperatures in the 70s. OUTLOOK… Humidity begins to build on Monday, and the heat arrives on Tuesday. The region appears to be on the fringe of the upper-level ridge, which means disturbances riding along it bring the risk of showers and strong to severe storms throughout the week. Expect it to be hot through next weekend.
