A storm is brewing west of Bermuda, and a cold front approaching from the west has Maine caught in the middle of them. That may not be a bad thing, as upper-level ridging may keep most of the moisture away. This may be the best chance for rainfall as dry conditions are expected next week. The offshore storm does bring some uncertainty for Saturday as a more westerly track increases rain chances south and east of the mountains. Eastern areas have the best opportunity for now. This will be monitored and updated. Expect choppy conditions for the ocean, with a small craft advisory likely as seas build in the 4-6’ range. Rip currents are a concern for the beaches, which are without lifeguards at this point. Daytime high tides run in the 1-2 PM hour on Saturday and Sunday. THURSDAY… Warm and breezy over interior areas, coastal sea breeze development cools the shorelines. Expect areas of patchy fog to develop overnight. FRIDAY… Low-level clouds south and east of the mountains while northern areas and the Quebec border region enjoy the sun. Patchy fog with drizzle is possible along the shorelines. A southeast wind brings breezy conditions in the afternoon to the coast and mountains. SATURDAY… Low pressure off Cape Cod heads towards Nova Scotia in the morning. Shower chances are possible for MidCoast and DownEast areas, with the best chance over Washington County, closer to Passamaquoddy Bay. A cold front approaches from the west, which may bring a late-day shower to extreme western areas. SATURDAY NIGHT/SUNDAY… Isolated to scattered showers overspread the region overnight, ending from west to east in the morning, with breezy conditions and sky clearing out in the afternoon. TEMPERATURES after Thursday are expected to run on the cool side as compared to normal for this time of year with 60s/70s for highs and 40s/50s for lows through early next week.
