The northwest wind picks up and blows the clouds out, bringing some sun to most of the region for the first time in several days. Expected high temperatures are in the 30s for the mountains and north to the 40s for the south and east. Wind gusts in the 25-35 mph range knock off about 10° off the actual temperature. TUESDAY NIGHT: High pressure settles in, the windmill shuts down, and radiational cooling sets up for a chilly night. Low temperatures fall into the single digits/teens for the interior, with the 20s for the coast. WEDNESDAY: A mainly sunny start, with clouds increasing during the day. High temperatures will range from the 30s in the north to the 50s in the south. WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY: Precipitation breaks out in the form of snow/junk by around midnight and overspreads the region heading into Thursday morning. Expect the potential for a slick morning commute from Rumford over to Bangor and DownEast areas and north. The higher elevations could deal with a period of icing through the morning. The precipitation shield quickly moves north by mid-afternoon, warming temperatures behind it. Some breaks in the clouds may bring sun to western areas in the afternoon. Conditions improve through the afternoon and into the evening.
