THE BIG PICTURE: The region will experience a rather progressive flow overall through the end of the week. The cold front on Saturday may slow down a bit upon approach, which brings some uncertainty about the timing and coverage of rainfall into Sunday. There are signs of tropical development to stay mindful of as we head into early September. TUESDAY: There are areas of fog around that could be locally dense in spots for the morning commute. While the fog is expected to clear out over the interior, it may be stubborn along the coast, spoiling available sun in some areas and keeping temperatures in the 60s. Overall, it was a quiet day weather-wise. A weak wave ahead of a cold front on the way brings some clouds and the risk of sprinkles or a light passing shower over the interior. The sea breeze kicks up along the coast, cooling the shores and raising the dew point temperatures to potentially muggy levels. TUESDAY NIGHT: Expect the fog bank that lingers offshore to move into the coastal plain in the evening and may once again be locally dense in spots. Clouds build with the cold front approaching. Showers break out, heading toward daylight over the interior. Overnight lows are a bit warm, with mid-50s north to low 60s south. WEDNESDAY: The cold front is on track to move through the region at a fair clip. It will bring scattered showers to the region through the morning and end by early afternoon. Given the elevated dew points over the coastal plain and upper-level dynamics, I can’t rule out a rumble of thunder as a parting gift. Expect a northerly breeze afternoon with cloud cover clearing out, and drier air moving in. High temperatures range from the upper 60s far north to the low 80s along the south coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK: High pressure moves in on Thursday and stays through Friday. Expect cool and dry conditions with highs in the 60s to low 70s and overnight lows in the 40s to mid-50s. Showers arrive on Saturday. A slowdown in the frontal boundary may keep the south and east dry for most of the day. Saturday night, showers move through the state. An early morning shower is possible for the coast Sunday. A weak clipper may bring a light shower / sprinkle for Monday. Temperatures overall range in the mid-to-upper 60s to mid-70s during the day, with lows in the 50s to low 60s throughout the Labor Day weekend. Always have MULTIPLE ways to receive weather alerts.
