Thank you for the support of PTW! TUESDAY… SNOW SQUALLS are the main concern for the day and could happen across most areas of the state this afternoon due to a spicy upper-level shortwave passing through. Gusty wind, whiteout conditions, and a quick inch of snow are possible. Outflow ahead of the front may bring a dusting to an inch of snow over the north and mountains. TUESDAY NIGHT… Snow showers are possible early. The sky clears out as the shortwave heads out to sea. The wind drops as high pressure settles in. It will be another bitterly cold night, with many areas bottoming out below zero. WEDNESDAY… A few clouds to the north and south are possible, but it will be a mainly sunny day with little wind. WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY… Clouds increase from the west as an inside runner approaches the Great Lakes. Confidence runs high that all areas start as snow, and snow will likely be on the ground in time or just beginning for the Thursday morning commute. Northern regions are likely to stay snowy throughout the event. Southern & DownEast shoreline areas are likely to see rain toward the end. Confidence is low for the interior coastal plain, the western foothills over into central, and the DownEast interior on precipitation type and amount. Part of the reason is whether or not the timing of a new ocean low developing. Based on the Monday overnight data, the snowfall map presented here is roughly in the middle of the road and is subject to change. QUICK THOUGHTS ON THE NEXT ONE… Operational ideas run on the warm side, and ensemble ideas are on the cool side from Saturday night into Sunday. Snow for the interior, with snow to rain possible south and east of the mountains, and stay tuned.
