TUESDAY: A weak clipper is on track to pass through the region today, bringing fluffy snow showers to the north and the western mountains and breezy conditions to the south, central, and western areas. The wind chill could knock 5-10° off the actual temperature, making it feel like the teens and 20s. A high-ratio snow event is likely, as snow-to-water ratios could hedge upwards of 20:1, raising the poof factor. With the lighter wind speeds over the north, upwards of 2” of fluff is possible. TUESDAY NIGHT: Snow showers and flurries are possible primarily over the north as the clipper departs to the east. The breeze is expected to pick up, which may blow the recently fallen snow around, causing a few slick spots in the north country. Wind chill values by daylight Wednesday are expected below zero for the higher terrain, with single digits above for most to the south and east. WEDNESDAY: The northwest breeze continues through the day but should begin to diminish by the evening. Snow showers and/or flurries are possible for higher elevations. Closer to the coast, a better chance of sun. Temperatures will be slightly cooler than Tuesday, with the wind chill cooler still. EXTENDED OUTLOOK: Wednesday night will be cold as the breeze diminishes and radiational cooling sets up, with temperatures in the single digits below to around zero in the north and single digits above elsewhere away from the shorelines. After a chilly day on Thursday, temperatures rise into Friday. A chance for snow and/or rain showers and breezy conditions are possible on Saturday. Sunday appears dry and cooler, with a bit of a breeze for now. MLK Day brings a chance for snow, but the jury remains out on how impactful it may be.
