The upper-low parade continues through late weekA cold front will approach the region on Tuesday afternoon from the west, then cross the area overnight, accompanied by a few showers and thunderstorms. Drier air will move back in on Wednesday before a strong cold front brings another chance for showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon. Dry and cool air from Canada will be present on Friday, Independence Day, and Saturday, before temperatures rise above normal towards the end of the weekend and into Monday. A few showers with humid conditions on WednesdayWhile the humidity level drops on Wednesday, dew points will remain muggy, ranging from the mid-60s in the north to the upper 60s in the south. During the day, a brief period of high pressure will move in, creating a break in the rain showers and thunderstorms. The low-pressure system from Tuesday will move further out into the Atlantic, keeping any leftover rain showers out over the ocean. However, another low-pressure system to the northwest may send some weak disturbances to the region. With rising moisture, there could be a few light rain showers in northern areas. High temperatures will be warmer than yesterday, ranging in the mid-80s throughout the state. Another chance for storms on ThursdayA cold front is expected to drop down from Quebec and cross New England on Thursday, bringing another chance for showers and thunderstorms. The highest chance for storms will be across northern and central areas. An upper-level low will move closer Thursday night as a cold front begins to push through the region. There will still be a chance for thunderstorms early Thursday night, but otherwise, partly sunny skies are expected with a few passing showers possible. High temperatures will be slightly cooler than on Wednesday, ranging from the low to mid-70s in the north and from the low to mid-80s in the south. Dew points will look similar to Wednesday, staying in the low 60s across the region, creating a muggy feel. Outlook for the Fourth improvingFriday Midnight (05z) to Friday 8 PM (00z Saturday) - An upper-level low will shift east across Maine, bringing in a cooler air mass aloft. This feature will enhance large-scale ascent and increase the potential for scattered showers during the day. However, model guidance has trended slower with the arrival of cooler air aloft, suggesting that the atmosphere may remain stable through much of the day until the afternoon hours, where there is a slight chance for some isolated thunderstorms across the region. Friday night, any lingering showers will slowly diminish as the upper-level low begins to exit to the east and ridging builds in from the west. High temperatures will range from the high 60s to the low 70s in the north and from the mid to high 70s in the south. Upper level disturbance passes through over the weekendThe upper-level low will move into the Maritimes on Saturday, though the exact timing remains uncertain. With cold air aloft still nearby, steep lapse rates could support a slight chance of showers, mainly in the north and over the mountains. Partly cloudy to mainly clear skies are expected throughout the day with high temperatures ranging from the high 70s to low 80s across the region. Dew points will begin to rise again on Saturday into Sunday, creating a muggy feel as values are expected to be above 60. High temperatures are expected to be warmer than Sunday, reaching the high 80s in southern areas and the low 80s in northern regions. There is a possibility for showers and thunderstorms on Sunday into Sunday night across the north. Given uncertainty in the long term, check back for updates and changes to the forecast. A bit steamy to start next week with some moderationThe next frontal system may pass through the region on Monday or Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to reach 90 in the far southwest portion of the state. High temperatures on Monday will be cooler, yet still warm, farther north, reaching 80 degrees. The most humid conditions are expected for Monday, before slightly dropping on Tuesday. However, southern areas will continue to experience these muggy conditions. Temperatures are expected to settle back to the mid-70s to low-80s on Tuesday. Temperature outlook through MondayThe PTW Weather Wall with updates 24/7Today's update prepared by Penn State graduate |
