A look out west with the water vapor image to get a read on what is happening downstream. The western ridge has the anchor dropped and will flex its muscle over the next several days. The result will be a troffy, unsettled pattern for Maine. It kicks off on Wednesday with a few showers possible in the mountains and a sprinkle chance elsewhere as a weak clipper system passes through. An upper low over the Gulf of Alaska races eastward and combines with another near Hudson Bay. The western ridge flexing itself northward into the Canadian Prairies forces the trough associated with the upper low to dip into the northeastern United States later in the week. It brings shower potential late Friday night into Saturday. A lull in shower activity appears in the offing for Sunday, with cooler, more seasonable air filtering in. This brings the idea of frost potential for interior areas Sunday night into the discussion, which is cloud cover dependent. Gardeners should stay tuned. The trailing low currently over the Bering Sea rides along the trough and dips into the area to start next week. While all that is happening, a tropical flare-up is expected in the Gulf of Mexico. There is the idea that the trough may tap into the moisture associated with that and draw it into the northeast, which may bring an ocean storm that could bring a decent rainfall and perhaps some wind for Monday into Tuesday, but it is too far out to be confident.
