A weak wave moves into the region

Picture
Outside of a few areas of patchy fog in the valleys and along the rivers, the day starts with some sun. High pressure to the south nudges seasonably cool temperatures up a couple of degrees from Tuesday. A light sea breeze is expected to freshen the shorelines in the afternoon, but it does not appear to venture too far inland. Fire danger persists, but thankfully, it won't be as breezy as it has been in recent days.

Wednesday, Noon to Thursday, 2 AM - With high pressure to the south, this opens the door for a weak disturbance to pass through the region in the afternoon. The best chance of a shower/storm appears along the coastal plain along the sea breeze front. Interior areas may receive a light shower/sprinkle.

After sunset, the sky clears, and the light breeze of the day diminishes. The valleys and north may see temperatures fall into the 30s by daylight on Thursday.

Outlook into the weekend

Picture
Thursday 8 AM (12z) to Saturday 2 PM (18z) - A look at precipitable water values shows potential drought-denting tropical moisture well to the south and east of the region. The upper low taps into juice from the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions, raising humidity levels enough to bring the risk of showers and storms on Friday.

Dry air works into the system heading into Saturday, reducing the amount of moisture and thus lessening rain chances.

This has been the theme of the summer of 2025.

Thursday 8 AM (12z) to Saturday 2 PM (18z) - The initial injection of moisture from the south brings the best chance of rainfall over the region on Friday. With marginal dew points in the mid-50s to low 60s expected on Friday, hit-or-miss showers with an isolated storm are the likely outcome.

Showers are expected to be more widely scattered and light in the north and east on Saturday.

Guidance ideas vary on the departure of the upper low on Sunday, but if it does linger, light showers are the likely outcome over the north.

The bottom line is this is another potluck rainfall setup. While the chances for precipitation are there, some areas may get little to none.  It should be of no surprise that guidance ideas are becoming drier closer to the event.

Temperature outlook through Tuesday

Fire danger concerns elevate on Thursday as the wind speeds pick up out of the south, ahead of the approaching upper low and frontal boundary associated with it. After the short-term chances for rain, the next chance for rain may occur in the middle part of next week; however, confidence is currently low on this idea.
