Comfortable, dry conditions continue

Picture
SYNOPSIS: High pressure continues to dominate the weather pattern, keeping us dry. The high pressure remains over the region for the rest of the work week before sliding to the south and east on Friday. A warm front moves through the state on Saturday with a few isolated showers possible, but not enough to alleviate concerns about recent dryness. High pressure moved back in on Sunday with a return to the same calm, dry weather pattern, but with warmer conditions.

WEDNESDAY: Another calm, dry day. Thanks to high pressure that has been dominating the weather pattern for the northeastern United States for the past few days. However, most of the smoke has moved south out of the region, clearing the air for most of the state. A few air quality concerns may still linger for the western part of the state, but not enough to warrant any Air Quality Alerts being issued. Skies will be mostly sunny with mostly calm winds thanks to a slight pressure gradient. Highs today will remain in the 70s for most, with a few 80s popping out where the sun is out the longest. A sea breeze developing later this afternoon will keep things a little cooler around the coast again.

THURSDAY: With clear skies and calm winds, some fog may form early in the morning on Thursday. Any that does form will quickly dissipate once the sun comes out and warms up the air. Otherwise, Thursday will be similar to Wednesday, with clear skies and calm winds. Our area of high pressure will start to move southward, bringing in warmer air. Thursday won’t be that much warmer than Wednesday with highs in the low 80s for most, which is just slightly above average, but not by much (less than 5°F).

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Another clear, calm Thursday night means fog will be possible once again early Friday morning. Just like Thursday, any fog that does develop will quickly dissipate when the sun comes out and heats things up. I feel like I keep repeating myself here. Friday will be another calm, dry day with temperatures around where they were for Thursday, with highs in the low 80s.  Saturday will be a little different, but not by much. Warm and humid air from the south will raise high temperatures a little into the low 80s up north and the mid-80s down south. Dew points will be creeping up around that 60°F threshold on Saturday, so that the humidity may feel a little noticeable. Going into the new week, our theme will be rising temperatures with highs on Sunday starting in the mid to upper 80s across the state, except for the coast, where a sea breeze will keep them in the 70s. Skies remain sunny with calm winds to end the weekend as well. Dew points in the mid-60s will make the humidity more noticeable and a little uncomfortable as well. Looking ahead into next week, this pattern seems to continue from warm to hot temperatures and sunny skies. This is a result of high pressure remaining to our south, transporting warm, humid air into the region from the south. Enjoy the cooler temperatures and low humidity the next few days while you can!

This is my last post with PTW for the summer internship. I want to thank everyone who supported my work here this summer. Mike has really grown a great community here with PTW, and I am glad I got to be a part of it. I would also like to thank Mike for offering me this opportunity to join you this summer. Mike has been a great mentor who has a lot to teach me, as well as always pushing me to do my best. Thank you for providing me with this opportunity to experience another side of weather forecasting, allowing me to expand my weather knowledge and improve my forecasting skills. Thank you, everyone, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer! -Daniel
