Boundaries swing through late weekAnother upper-level trough will swing over the region tomorrow afternoon along with the associated cold front. Showers and thunderstorms accompany the front with a conditional severe weather threat. Then, cooler, drier air moves in behind the front for a comfortable 4th of July. Then we’re watching for a few pesky showers this weekend as quick bursts of upper-level energy move through. Temperatures are expected to be in the 70s to 80s this weekend, with each day being warmer than the previous one. The warm-up peaks on Monday with temperatures in the 80s and 90s during the day, accompanied by muggy dew points in the 60s. A weak area of low pressure will also move through on Monday with more showers and storms. But high pressure takes control for Tuesday and Wednesday, cooling things slightly but keeping it mostly dry. Chance for showers and storms ThursdayThursday 10 AM (14z) to Friday 1 AM (05z) - Another upper-level trough will swing through the state tomorrow, bringing more unsettled weather. This will come in the form of a cold front that is expected to move through tomorrow afternoon and evening. Showers and thunderstorms will move through ahead of the front, mainly during the afternoon hours. High temperatures in the afternoon are expected to range from the mid-70s to the mid-80s across the state, which will help increase instability slightly. However, it will only be modest in some areas, so we're not expecting numerous widespread thunderstorms. Instead, we'll see scattered showers with a few thunderstorms popping up across the region. Due to the potential modest instability in the atmosphere tomorrow, there is a conditional threat of severe weather, with damaging winds being the primary hazard. Moisture values in the atmosphere will also be slightly lower than they've been this week, which means the atmosphere won't be able to hold as much rain as it could have earlier this week. We're not anticipating a flood threat, but there could still be some heavy downpours, especially in any thunderstorms that develop. Upper-level energy passes through FridayAs is typically the case, once the cold front moves through on Thursday, a cooler and drier air mass will follow in its wake. The Fourth of July will be comfortable outside for parades and evening fireworks. High temperatures will be in the 70s across the state, with dew points in the 50s, which is below the 60°F comfort threshold. We'll be mainly dry across the state, but we'll need to keep an eye on the northwest for some quick showers in the late afternoon and early evening. The shower's chances come down by nightfall, so hopefully there won't be any issues with late evening fireworks. A few showers possible for the mountains and north |
