ELEVATED FIRE RISK continues like a broken record player playing a bad B-side song. While Wednesday won’t be as windy as Tuesday, bone-dry conditions with dew points in the teens and relative humidity values in the 25-40% range, along with wind gusts in the 20-25 mph range, are a concern. Thankfully, the breeze drops over much of the region later in the day but may persist over DownEast areas with low pressure to the east of Nova Scotia. LIGHT ICE POSSIBLE Thursday night into Friday morning thanks to old friend cold air damming. High pressure moves into the region Wednesday, slides north, and keeps plenty of cold air around as an ocean low east of Nova Scotia retrogrades to the west. I don't expect much ice accretion with the air as dry as it is, but it doesn’t take much to create a few slick spots for early bird travelers. Warmer air is expected to win out and get all areas above freezing. RAIN CHANCES FOR FRIDAY continue to favor the north and east as the ocean low to the east backs in. Where the high to the north positions itself will dictate how far west the retrograding low reaches and how much precipitation comes out of it. WIND SPEEDS INCREASE Thursday night and is expected to stay breezy through the weekend. With little rainfall expected over the west and south, the ongoing wildfire risk continues. *sigh* SHOWERS are expected on Saturday in the nuisance variety. Sunday may be dry in most areas. Light rain showers are ideal for Monday and Tuesday as the low wobbles offshore and may back into the region due to the blocking to the north and east. ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDES are on the way with the full moon this weekend. This may cause minor flooding in the usual low-lying areas and splash over along the seawalls.
