Cool and dry air arrives with breezy conditionsA strong upper-level ridge over the south continues to act as a cap on the moisture. An upper low to the west intensifies, bringing rain showers, isolated storms, and snowfall at higher elevations. A weak wave brings showers to the Great Lakes. The surface high pressure behind the wave acts as a block for the low pressure out west and sends it into the Canadian Prairies. The ridging over the upper Midwest gingerly moves to the east, bringing a warm-up into the weekend. The trough to the east of Hudson Bay dives into the region on Wednesday. The meteorological phenomena of cold air advection will be the main story through Thursday. Cool, dry air enters the region, accompanied by breezy conditions. The pressure gradient from low pressure to the east and high pressure to the west/northwest tightens up, and the windmills start spinning. The north and mountains may get a shower/sprinkle. Wind chills in the 30s along the Quebec border bring the mid-fall feel. The higher elevations feel like early winter, with wind chills in the 10s/20s, or colder. With the breeze cranked up, Mount Washington's apparent temperature is forecast to fall below zero. With the dry air and breezy conditions, expect fire danger levels to be elevated into the weekend.
