 The mean average first frost date for the coastal plain is October 11th based on climatology records. Sure, there has been some patchy frost which I have been informed of, and can say for myself that I have experienced it at my location in Kennebunk. This freeze would be the first widespread frost event, which if it does verify, would technically end growing season by the National Weather Service discontinuing frost/freeze alerts. I have inserted a picture of my wife’s mums that she is trying to maintain into the graphic. For those who can drag in potted plants and cover others, a mild stretch of weather starts on Friday, which will continue well into next week and will keep the plants going for a while longer.  It's expected to be a chilly day for the mountains, with some upslope snow/rain showers and generally cloudy with breezy conditions. The wind chill values on the graphic in degrees Celsius show the below-freezing ambient temperature for 2 PM this afternoon, which indicates the 20s for the higher hills thanks to a breezy northwest wind that is in the process of shoving the upper low over New Brunswick out of here as the upper-level ridge approaches for the weekend. Cloud cover will vary at times around the region, with more in the way of the sun closer to the coast. Any sky cover clears out tonight and sets up radiational cooling which could bring the freeze.  Dry conditions with no rainfall are expected for at least week, with above average temperatures arriving in time for the weekend as the upper level ridge hangs out well into next week.
