DRY TIMES CONTINUE: The low-level water vapor loop shows the setup for the next few days. Beneficial rain is on the way for Southern New England (>¼”) but not much for Maine. I am concerned that models aren’t reading the cut-off low very well in the long term, as some ideas have the chance for a bit more rain over York County on Saturday, but I am not sold on that yet. The state is caught in the dry and crusty part of the sandwich and appears to stay that way through the rest of the month and into October. The growing season is about over, which is good news as we’re close to flash drought, given the lack of rainfall. COOLER TEMPERATURES are on the way thanks to a backdoor cold front that will drop down starting on Thursday and bring the mercury down to seasonable levels by the weekend. Another backdoor cold front may pass through Sunday. While I don’t see any widespread frost concerns, there is the chance for patchy frost for the North Woods and along the Quebec border region early next week. MINOR COASTAL FLOODING and splashover are possible with astronomically high tides over the next few days and an onshore flow courtesy of high pressure from the east. Seas are expected to build in the 3-5’ range by Friday and drop to 2-3’ by Sunday. Winter is coming, and I could use your support for 2025Thank you to those who have contributed to PTW for 2025.
