So, you are working toward a career in the weather forecast industry?
Pine Tree Weather offers internships to college level meteorology students, whether they are seeking future employment in the public or private sector, or broadcast media. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to dip your toes in the water, roll up your sleeves, and get the feel of what is required to work in the field in the day-to-day grind.
What does a PTW internship provide?
You will gain true hands-on forecast experience working alongside a Maine forecast and media veteran who is a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador and a National Weather Service partner. You will gain valuable communication and forecast skills which are in high demand for college graduates going into the job marketplace. You will learn how to write forecast discussions, create graphics, and interact with an ever-growing enthusiastic and supportive audience on social media.
Communication is an overlooked skill needed by students in the career field
The one consistent message I hear from media types along with private and public sector managers and recruiters is the need for prospective employees to not only forecast, but also to be able to communicate it clearly and effectively to the end user. Often, recent college graduates have a difficult time gaining employment because this is the one key item missing from their resumes. They may have some stellar internships in the public and private sectors, but with little to nothing to show for written communication skills, graphic design, and social interaction. Having a communication background is key to starting off in the field ahead of the rest of the competition.
