After a pleasant Sunday, showers and fog to start the week

Pattern continues to be unsettled
at times through next weekend

Looking at the national map, the players involved with the outlook for Maine are all on the table. An occluded (slowly weakening) area of low pressure over eastern Ontario heads into northern Quebec and drags a cold front into the region Sunday night into Monday.  Behind the front, an upper-level low settles in bringing varying clouds, risk for showers with perhaps a thunderstorm for northern areas for Tuesday. A ridge building over the nation's heartland moves into the region Wednesday into Thursday, giving the region a couple of dry days along with warmer temperatures.  A long wave cold front is expected to pass through the region Friday.  Dew points remain at comfortable levels through the period until Friday.

Sunday stays dry until late in the day

Whatever you do for the day, get outside and enjoy it. I was outdoors most of Saturday and appreciated every minute of it. This will be another great day to get some natural vitamin D and be grateful for why we live here.

Sunday 2 PM to Midnight Monday - Clouds begin to increase as the cold front approaches from the northwest. Dinner plans with the barbeque are best made early as the threat of showers increases heading into the evening hours.  While New Hampshire has the best chance for thunderstorms, extreme western areas of Maine should take note of an early evening threat for one there.

Showers continue into Monday

Picture
Monday Midnight to Noon - Expect areas of fog to start off in areas that receive rainfall heading into the day. Showers appear off and on over the region through the morning. Some quick hitting localized downpours are possible. The sun may poke through, and where it does may generate thunderstorm activity heading into the afternoon.

Monday Noon to Tuesday Midnight - Any storms that form Monday afternoon could bring heavy rain and gusty wind, perhaps some small hail if the convection cranks up. With thunderstorms, the severe chance is always possible, but that idea appears very low at this point. Showers end from west to east heading into Tuesday morning. Some fog is possible in areas to start Tuesday morning.

As far as total rain amounts go, it's shaping up to be a potluck event. Some areas could pick up an inch or two where heavy rain occurs, other areas may get sprinkles or very light amounts.

Temperature outlook through Friday
