Barry remnants to bring in humidity along with some showers and storms

Tuesday mainly dry; showers and storms Wednesday

Picture
A warm front moves east into New England Tuesday. Outside of the risk of a remote shower, the increased activity holds off until Tuesday night into Wednesday. Showers and storms appear to be prevalent over the north and mountains Wednesday morning and afternoon. A weak cold front pushes showers and storms south and east Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Picture
When the warm front slides through, it will be noticed more by rising dew points than rain. Expect humidity values to range from muggy to sultry for the next several days for coastal areas. The mountains and north will see a bit of break at times, but it will be steamy everywhere by the weekend.

Tropical moisture to bring the threat
of flooding downpours

Picture
Watching the loop, the focus here is on the yellow, red and purple shaded colors. This is precipitable water values, which is the amount of moisture in the air column. The loop shows the moisture from Barry work through the region Wednesday afternoon, along with the weak cold front pushing southeast to drive it south.

Any areas that get showers and storms on Wednesday are likely to get localized areas of torrential downpours along with it. The severe storm threat appears very low, but cannot be ruled out completely. Downdraft damaging wind and rain, along with lightning will be the main concerns in any storms that form.

While Thursday appears to be mainly dry with varying amounts of clouds pending on region, the position of frontal boundary to the south is the main concern. If the weak cold front slows down in progression, that will keep southwestern areas sticky and with threat for showers and storms. For now, the idea is that it will hang over southern New England through Thursday, before nudging northward on Friday.
Picture
With the heat dome embedded over the southern part of the country, waves will ride over it. The result of that is the threat for showers and storms Friday, a few isolated storms over the mountains and north Saturday, and two frontal passages Sunday and Monday. Perhaps by Tuesday the region will see more comfortable conditions in temperature and humidity.

Heat advisory possible for the coastal plain Saturday

Picture
Temperatures climb in earnest on Friday, and then peak out at the highest level of the forecast period on Saturday. This appears to be our hottest day of the season thus far, with the heat index pushing 100° in many locales in southwestern and DownEast areas.

For folks thinking about seeking relief oceanside, keep in mind that high tide will be in the 2:00 PM hour Saturday afternoon. Pick your location expecting real estate to shrink until that time.

Stay smart in this heat. For my runners, bikers, golfers and hikers that follow this site, plan on going early in the day. Check on the neighbors that don't have air conditioning. Keep watch on the kids, and take it easy. Hydrate with water as much as possible. Do your best to stay cool.

Stay on alert through the weekend
