Frost advisory posted for northern areas Thursday night; weekend update

9/12/2019

Comments

For most areas, a decent but cool day

Picture
High pressure works into the region from Quebec on Thursday, and will bring cooler than normal temperatures with it. Central and eastern areas are likely to be the warmest in the state as that is where the sun will best warm the cool air mass.  Where there is sun, high temperatures will likely reach the 60s. Where sun is limited, 50s are what to expect for the day.
Picture
A weak disturbance rides over the heat dome to the southwest and may bring light some shower activity for southern Maine around noon. Other than that, the rest of the state stays dry for the day.

Frost Advisory for parts of northern areas
Thursday night

Picture
The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a frost advisory for the Allagash and Baxter State Park region overnight into Friday morning. With dew points forecast above freezing for other areas, there may be some fog to deal with, and it will be a chilly fog at that. Folks tending vegetable gardens and flower beds are advised to cover them up just in case temperatures are a bit cooler than advertised.

Outlook through Monday

Picture
Friday will see clouds increase ahead of a longwave cold front that will bring some shower activity to the region on Saturday. Northern and western areas continue to appear to see the best chance for rainfall, with just a risk of a spot shower for southern and eastern areas. Behind the the front, Sunday appears dry for all but the Quebec border region, where a few showers may pop up in the morning, ending by early afternoon. Our below normal temperature trend as of late takes a break, as a strong ridge to the west works its way east. A weak disturbance along that ridge may pop a light shower for southern areas on Monday. High temperatures reach the 70s for most of the region as the norm well into next week.

Please support Pine Tree Weather

Pine Tree Weather is funded through the support of people like you. To this point, I do not accept outside advertising, and would like to keep it that way. Thanks to the Patreon monthly donors and those that have mailed checks, the site is roughly 40% funded for the year. In order to continue, a total of $3,000 is needed to pay the bills. October and January are when most of the bills come due. I have spent over $10,000 of my own funds over the years, and refuse to spend any more out of my own pocket to keep this going. If you find value in what I do, I will humbly ask you to support it. Without the financial support, this site will cease. No amount is too small.  I would appreciate your support!
