Another day, another round of showers
with a rumble potential

Picture
A back door cold front draped over northern Maine has dropped dew points in the 50s there whereas the rest of the state remains in the 60s. There will be some ebb and flow of the boundary during the day before it gets shoved out heading into Tuesday.

An area of stable air has worked into the southwest coast which may minimize the threat for shower activity there, but fog and drizzle may be the main feature.

Using a 15-minute loop here between 6 AM and 9 PM Monday to show the nature of slow-moving shower activity which could be locally heavy and cause flash flooding. Western and eastern areas may experience a rumble of thunder, but severe weather is not expected.

High temperatures will be in the 60s for most, a bit cooler in the 50s for Penobscot Bay and DownEast areas. The thermometer may not move much until Tuesday.

Stay aware of flash-flood potential

More than 50% of all flood fatalities are vehicle related. You never know how deep the water is or if the road has been washed away or compromised beneath the water. Don’t risk driving into floodwaters. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Outlook remains muggy and damp through the week
and beyond

Picture
A look here at a forecast loop of precipitable water levels in the air column which indicates how saturated the atmosphere could be.  With the persistent blocking pattern going on to the northeast of the region along with a strong ridge anchored over the west, this damp pattern is not expected to end anytime soon. The real juicy air stays suppressed to the south and east of the area, which will make the humidity over Maine somewhat tolerable. The other blessing here is there are no signals of high heat through the first part of July to prevent this from turning into a steam bath.
Picture
The forecast for Tuesday into Wednesday had been looking to be a very damp affair, but as time gets closer it does not appear to be as much of a widespread concern. Tuesday morning appears to be the best chance for shower activity, and then becomes widely scattered in the afternoon. The shower chances for Wednesday appear widely scattered as well. The next concern comes later on in the week where there is potential for a flare up of a tropical system east of Bermuda that tracks to the north along the wobbling boundary. I am not predicting a hurricane, nor am I predicting a tropical storm, but it could bring heavy rain and some wind.  Time will tell if this is science fiction, or something that develops.

With the blocking and southerly flow continues the threat of showers and storms until further notice.
