Nice weather ahead for Saturday and Sunday with rain potential on Monday

6/11/2021

Comments

Showers early Saturday for southern areas,
mostly sunny later

Picture
As a shortwave trough at 500mb passes through the state Saturday morning, a chance for rain showers exists, primarily for the SW Interior and SW Coast regions.
Picture
Dry and mostly sunny conditions will follow later across the region as high pressure works its way back in, although a few small pockets of 500mb energy leftover from the morning may allow for a pop-up shower. Temperatures should reach at least 70 over most of the inland portions of the state but will likely remain in the 60’s along the coast due to the presence of a strong sea breeze.

Clear weather on Sunday, clouds move in
during the evening

Picture
Sunday should make for a nice day, with warm and mostly sunny conditions. Temperatures will make it to around 70 towards the north, the low 80’s in the SW Interior, 60’s along the coast, and mid-70’s elsewhere. Clouds associated with a low pressure system move in during the evening and rain showers begin overnight.

Rain during the day on Monday

Picture
The low pressure system will continue to produce rain and possibly a thunderstorm over the area throughout the day on Monday along with mostly cloudy conditions. There is still some uncertainty as to the exact timing and intensity but there is the possibility of some much needed rain arriving for southern Maine. Temperatures now are forecast to be in the upper 60’s across the region but a stronger system with more rain will lead to lower temperatures due to increased cloud cover and cooling by evaporation.

More rain showers on Tuesday before
tapering off Wednesday morning

Picture
The chance for rain showers continues into Tuesday along with mostly cloudy skies and slightly below average temperatures. Lingering rain showers on Wednesday should give way to mostly sunny skies.

Temperature outlook through next week

Warm temperatures over the weekend before a cooler trend begins for next week.

Rip Currents Safety

Picture
If you are swimming near a shoreline, there is always the risk of getting caught up in a rip current. Before you go to the beach: know how to swim and check the Surf Zone Forecast. When you go to the beach: if you can't swim stay out, swim at a lifeguard-protected beach, never swim alone, never swim at night, and stay at least 100 feet (30 meters) away from piers and jetties. Permanent rip currents often exist alongside these structures. If you get caught in a rip current: remain calm (you will not be pulled under the surface of the water), only swim PARALLEL to the shore to escape the current and draw attention to yourself. If you see someone in trouble: throw the rip current victim something that floats, get help from a lifeguard, or call 9-1-1 and yell instructions on how to escape the rip current (tell them which way to swim). BE PREPARED WITH A NOAA Weather Radio.

For $20-$40, it could provide vital information to you when you need it. The weather bands are standard on most public safety scanners, and newer scanner models. Weather radios can be programmed for auto alert.  Click here for more information.
