Outlook through Monday: breezy at times with risk of a shower

High pressure works in Saturday

Picture
NAM model wind speed and direction 8 PM Friday to 8 PM Saturday
A cold front will pass through the region Friday night. The wind picks up behind it and will clear out the clouds and bring breezy conditions for Saturday. Sustained wind speeds (shown above) range in the 10-20 mph range, with gusts possible 25-30 mph at times through the afternoon. The wind settles as the high makes a brief visit Saturday night.

With the down sloping wind, the mountains and north stay on the cool side with highs in the 50s, where the coastal plain reaches the 60s. With the wind settled, temperatures fall into the upper 20s / low to mid-30s for the north and mountains, to around 40° for the coastal plain as we head into Sunday.

A weak frontal boundary brings
a chance for showers Sunday

The sky clouds up from west to east Saturday night into early Sunday. The best chance for showers are in the mountains and north, but I can't rule out an isolated shower / sprinkle across the coastal plain. Any accumulation appears light. This fast mover brings sun to western and southern areas Sunday afternoon, and to the north and east by Sunday evening.

High temperatures for Sunday once again range in the 50s for the north and mountains, with 60s for the coastal plain. A southerly wind flow ahead of the front may keep the shorelines cooler (50s), but after the front passes, most shoreline towns should reach 60° by the end of the day.

Another chance for light showers Monday

Another weak trough behind a parting coastal low to the south sets up the opportunity for some hit or miss shower activity to start the work week. Much like Sunday, there is not a whole lot of moisture with these. It may be a nuisance more than anything else. Highs for Monday once again in the 50s and 60s.

The is appears to be the last chance to see any precipitation until perhaps later in the week.

Semester over / taking a break

My course obligations have been fulfilled. It's been an interesting winter between the wacky pattern,  juggling work, school, forecasting and COVID. Since there is nothing major around, I am going to take the weekend off, catch up on some rest and get outside. I have two weeks off before I start class again, so I am going to sneak some time off here and there before my summer fills up. I will update next on Monday.

Thanks for all of your support!
