Today is the day to prepare for THREE storms on the way to the region this week. All of these systems will bring impacts in some form, with the storm Tuesday night into Wednesday the most problematic to a widespread area. Next weekend's storm could bring issues as well. Buckle up. It is going to be a rough week. A classic York County SpecialTIMING: Some ocean effect snow showers are possible for the southwest coast Saturday afternoon which may drop enough in spots to slick roads up a bit around the shorelines. The main event starts around mid-evening over York County and spreads to the northeastward overnight into Sunday morning. Snow ends from west to east late afternoon / early evening Sunday over the west and south and by late evening over eastern areas. BUST POTENTIAL: The forecast is still vulnerable due to several different factors...
From a travel standpoint, the most populated area in the state is likely to see the most impacts. If you do not have to drive, please avoid doing so. The high ratio snow will be slick as glass. The upside is that it will be easy to plow and shovel, which will make recovery quicker. Snow is expected to blow around over southern and MidCoast areas and will reduce visibility. Where banding occurs, snow will pile up quick and may be challenge for snow removal crews to handle at times. While not a textbook blizzard, there could be blizzard-like conditions with wind gusts in the 20-40 mph range starting in the wee hours of Sunday morning through Sunday night. Also important to note that a northwest wind picks up on Monday in the wake of the storm, which will cause snow to blow around and cause slick spots in areas until evening. Wednesday storm to be a forcePOTENTIAL IMPACTS: Power outages, a shoreline assault, heavy wet snow over the interior, heavy rain which may cause flooding for the coastal plain, along with high wind. This is another southeast wind direction event. The idea for now is a lesser duration of the stronger wind gusts, but the damaging threat is elevated. Coastal flooding and inundation are possible, with storm track and wind a factor to consider around high tide. Details on all of this to be ironed out. I will update on this storm on Sunday.
